Design
consultant /project artist, Retro fitting two upper pier parking lots,
incorporating vista points. Railing design and floor surface insets. Concept
acknowledges the Pacific Rim and its geographic relationship to Manhattan
Beach. Commissioned by the City of
Manhattan Beach, California.
My site-specific artworks conceptually integrate local history, community identity, and cultural linkages between people and time. I believe it should bridge inter-generational audiences,crosses economic divisions and speaks to locals of similar yet unique life experiences. Commissions have integrated community focus groups and or professional Engineers/Architects’ input either through collaborative brainstorming workshops or hands-on participation.

Blue Line Totems in Red 1995
A series of painted steel
sculptures on the 103rd street station platform. The imagery is
derived from ticket punch designs used by the conductors of the original Big
Red Car Trolley, from the first Los Angeles train system of the early 20’s and
30’s.
The abstract shapes are cut with a plasma cutter on 1/4 inch steel plates. Height reaches 18 feet with a 10-foot cross span. The platform has six proverbs in English and Spanish on the theme of Time (7”x 24”). African American Seniors from the 103rd street Watts Towers community were involved in selecting proverbs and dichos along with oral historical stories of the Red Trolley experience Painted steel and mosaic tile.
Commissioned by the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Los Angels (MTA) 103rd Street Station, City Watts, California.
Plaza Piedra 2001
Grove street water reclamation pump station, Park setting;12 stone stelas (12'x3'x3') with sand blasted designs depicting four elements/four sacred directions and sun symbols.
There are 125 tons of red sand stone from upstate New Mexico quarry, 20' diameter children's discovery sand box with cultural images flooring constructed with G.F.R.C., stone sitting arrangements (3'x3'x6') and walk ways, landscaping and railing design. Design work reviewed and approved by 40 member community focus group workshops. Commission by the City of San Diego Commission for Art and Cultural and City of San Diego Metropolitan Waste Water Department.
